PDST LITERACY CONFERENCE 2015 - UNLOCKING THE DOOR TO LEARNING

LITERACY SKILLS CREATE CONFIDENT LEARNERS
 
 

This workshop explores how to equip students with practical strategies and skills to cope with the literacy demands of their subject, with a focus on questioning, examination language and writing skills.

 

PRESENTER BIOGRAPHIES

 

 

Hazel Gannon is a post-primary teacher on secondment, since 2014, from Loreto College, Crumlin where she taught History, Geography, Learning Support and SPHE. As an advisor, Hazel supports schools in the running and development of the JCSP programme, the co-ordination and review of DEIS plans and improving teaching and learning across the curriculum through literacy development and the school self-evaluation process. 
 
 
Selena Wilkes is a post-primary teacher on secondment to the PDST, since 2013, 

from Patrician College, Dublin, where she was acting Deputy Principal. She has taught English, Geography, History, Environmental Studies and SPHE, and is an Advising Examiner in Leaving Certificate English, Higher Level. As an advisor with the PDST, Selena supports schools in focusing on the improvement of teaching and learning across the curriculum through the development of literacy and the school self-evaluation process as well as giving support in the areas of English and Geography. She also facilitates the Tánaiste and Active Learning Network programmes.
