Misneach is a leadership programme to support the newly appointed principal. It addresses key aspects of the role of primary school leadership and management. Over the course of two academic years, newly appointed principals engage with each other and are provided with learning opportunities on 5 occasions each of two days duration. The programme is guided by the five core principles that underpin good practice in school leadership:
  • Moral Purpose (the improvement of learning for every child in your school)
  • Courage to Act
  • Modelling of Good Practice
  • Sustainability (through empowering others to develop leadership skills)
  • Situational Awareness (knowledge and consideration of your school’s context)

Who is eligible for this programme?
All newly -appointed primary school principals are eligible.
Am I entitled to sub-cover?
Substitute cover is given for 1 day of each of the residential events for teaching principals with the other day coming from the personal quota of principal release days
I’m in my role six months, am I still eligible to apply?

Do I have to pay for Misneach?
No. The DES pays travel expenses, meals and accommodation along with the costs of the programme itself.
